Compassionate Ministries at Trinity Church

We believe that a life of compassion is central to the Christian way.  Part of our vision statement says “we are expressing God’s love for the world through living simply and selflessly, seeking justice for the oppressed, both locally and globally, and making compassion our lifestyle.” Below we’ve outlined organizations that people at Trinity are involved in.  If you would like to learn more about these organizations and how you can get involved please contact the Coordinator(s) listed below or get in touch with the Trinity Church office ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The Host Program at Calgary Catholic Immigration Society

The Host Program at Calgary Catholic Immigration Society offers a chance for Calgarians to get to know newcomers from around the globe. Volunteers meet with a family on a regular basis, learn about their culture, offer friendship, help with everyday adjustment to Canada, and help the family to learn English. This interaction allows volunteers to learn about the experience of moving to another country from the perspective of a refugee or immigrant, along with the challenges and successes along the way. It's a practical way that Christians can show hospitality and the love of Jesus to people who are starting their new lives in Calgary. I encourage people to get involved because it's part of my life and I have received to the same degree that I have given to the families I have been matched with. It's an experience like no other! www.ccis-calgary.ab.ca

Rays of Hope

Though a new organization, Rays of Hope is already making a big difference in the village of Akokoma, Kaberamaido.  Giving preference to the most vulnerable; orphans and children with single parents, in September 2010 we began the first-ever school within a 5 mile radius and registered 66 children into kindergarten and P1 (grade 1).  While receiving an education the children will also be learning about Jesus in their religious studies classes which is recognized as part of the curriculum of all Ugandan schools.  How exciting!  The villagers are all very excited about seeing this project progress and have taken an active role in helping to clean around the school grounds and care for what they now see as 'their school'.  Future plans are to build a larger school which will facilitate more children, orphan homes, a clinic and a church on our 15 acre parcel of land that we purchased earlier this year.

Compassion Canada

Who We Are

As the world’s leading Christian child development ministry, Compassion Canada is committed to eliminating the root causes of poverty for children around the globe. Our passion and purpose reside in our unwavering commitment to our Lord Jesus Christ and the ability of His Church to execute his command to serve the poor.

What We Do

Compassion’s child development approach is holistic, serving the spiritual, economic, social, and physical needs of a child. We accomplish this through our Child Development through Sponsorship Program. Our approach is augmented by our secondary initiatives – the Child Survival, Leadership Development, and Complementary Interventions programs.

How We Work

Compassion works in partnership with local churches in developing countries; providing resources, training and expertise to assist in the operation of holistic child development programs. Local churches are empowered to develop Compassion’s programs towards meeting the specific and individual needs of the children within their local communities.

Where We Work

Compassion works with the poorest of the poor children in over 25 developing countries around the world in Africa, Asia, Central and South America.

Poverty is a problem that seems overwhelming – too big to really make a difference. But a difference is possible and you can be a part of it. When you sponsor a child with Compassion you and the local church in the developing world are working together to end poverty in the life of a child with education, healthcare, social programs and most importantly, the eternal solution to poverty – the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  It’s that simple $41/month can change the life of a child – don’t wait, sponsor today.

Papua Partners Canada

My name is Don Clark. I am involved with my brother, Nathan Clark, in starting an organization called Papua Partners Canada.

In one sentence Papua Partners is all about partnering with Papuan organizations, churches, and people to bring justice and help to the poor and the needy of Papua.

The Indonesian province of Papua is on the island of New Guinea just North of Australia. The area where we grew up and where we'll be working is a remote mountainous region where daily life is hard, and there's a dire need for such things as good health care and education. While I'm sure we'll be involved in some of the typical big development projects the needs in Papua are all too often heartrendingly simple.

One day, news trickled in that a man had hidden himself away because he was sick. He was in a ramshackle pig hut way up a mountain side in the dense rainforest. When our Mom got to him he was literally skin and bones because he was starving to death. She wondered what could be wrong with him thinking it had to be something serious like cancer. She asked if he had any pain and he just stared at her with his gaunt eyes. One of the men who helped lead her up the mountain spoke for him and answered, “He has a toothache.” It seems so absurd to me that there are people who don't have something as simple as an Aspirin readily available for something as simple as a toothache.

It is early days yet in getting the organization set up and we've got a long way to go yet... Catch us sometime if you'd like to know more. We'll also be keeping the Pastors updated as we go.

Calgary Drop In and Rehab Centre

The DI is located on the east side of downtown Calgary. Its mission is to prevent homelessness where possible, offer care and shelter when needed, and provide opportunities for people to rehabilitate and rebuild their lives.

Trinity Church coordinates the following opportunities to volunteer at the DI: First, serving supper to DI guests once a month. We meet at the DI (4th Ave & 4th St. S.E.) from 5:45 - 6:45 on the third Thursday of every month. There is always a good group so you will never feel alone and the clients are extremely thankful.

A second opportunity to serve comes at Christmas when we meet to fill Christmas socks. All supplies are there - we just play Santa! Watch the Trinity Church website for details on dates and times. It's a fun and fulfilling time for all.

Volunteer Coordinator: Darlene Fach. Parking is available at the DI. For more information contact the church office: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
