Why Community Groups?

In a culture of individualism and personal choice, spirituality tends to be highly personal and a private matter. However, the Christian spiritual tradition offers an alternative path. There are 43 places in the New Testament where the followers of Jesus are encouraged to share life together and embody love—through service, prayer, sharing food, encouragement, etc. Most Calgarians live typically modern, urban lifestyles. Often our busyness leads to social isolation, loneliness, and a solitary spiritual journey that is lacking in support and companionship. We don’t believe that Sunday worship celebrations alone provide the meaningful personal connections that are essential to vital spirituality. Community Groups provide a place where that can happen.

Community Groups at Trinity

Community Groups are smaller groups of people who meet regularly for the purpose of promoting hospitality, friendship, and spiritual growth. Groups vary in terms of main focus, schedule, and format. Some groups, like the book club, meet once a month. Other groups are patterned after a “front porch” model. Some groups just like to eat and share life together in a more informal way. New groups are always forming, and information about existing groups changes on a regular basis. See below for information about current Community Groups, including contact information (or contact church office: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Leslie's Group—led by Leslie. We meet every other Wednesday night at 7:30 for various types of contemplative prayer (Lectio Divina, the Awareness Examen, Ignatian Prayer). Meetings take place at my house, which is just south of Marda Loop.  Check the calendar page for specific dates.  Contact me ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The Book Club—led by Darlene. This group meets monthly to discuss a book and enjoy good conversation. If you are interested in learning more, contact Darlene: 403-226-2512

Bev and Steve’s Group—led by Bev and Steve. They are meeting on Tuesday nights, 7:30 – 9:30pm. Their format is as follows: Meeting weekly for now, but may go to every other week. Group members take turns bringing a question, issue, or current event that they would like to discuss and learn how to view through a spiritual lens or perspective. The gathering closes with a time of “checking in” on how life is going, and then a time of prayer. Please contact Steve or Bev for information: 403-984-2451

The Northwest Group—currently a without a leader, but meeting anyways! This group is formed around a “rule” of availability and vulnerability. It meets on Second Tuesday of the month for prayer and reflection (starting to discuss Richard Rohr, The Naked Now: Learning to See as the Mystics See). The group co-sponsors a hospitality “Soup’s On” night every fourth Tuesday of the month. In addition, we serve supper at Drop In Centre on third Thursday of month). Lauren’s Group—led by Lauren. Our group meets every second Tuesday (usually at my place which is in West Hillburst, but more like Parkdale ). We meet around 6:15-6:30 for dinner and then start some kind of intentional discussion around 7:30 and aim to be finishing up around 9 pm.  We meet and study topics we hope will challenge us and be integrated in our lives and a reflection of the working out of our faith.  We don't have a specific community project but support each other in what we do individually and are keeping our eyes open to opportunities. If you would like to join us, please contact me: Lauren 403-710-1549
